TRON Founder Justin Sun Isn’t Too Keen on Bitcoin over AI and Quantum Tech Threats

TRON (TRX-USD) founder Justin Sun has grown negative on Bitcoin (BTC-USD) because he believes that fast progress in artificial intelligence and quantum computing could break the network’s digital security. Sun also warned that traders who hold Bitcoin through exchange-traded funds have failed to factor these tech risks into BTC’s current market value.

Justin Sun Warns That AI and Quantum Tech Threaten Bitcoin

During an interview with William Joy, Sun explained that big leaps in AI math could allow normal computers to crack Bitcoin’s encryption codes even before a full-scale quantum machine is built.

“If you ask about my personal view, I am currently slightly more bearish. The reason is straightforward: the algorithm evolution of AI and the issue of QD (quantum computing). I believe it will be difficult for BTC to walk away unscathed from this,” Sun said.

Google Cuts Quantum Error Rates on Its Willow Chip

While no computer can crack Bitcoin today, timelines are shrinking fast. In March 2026, Google ($GOOGL) Quantum AI projected that a machine with under 500,000 physical qubits could break Bitcoin’s code. This would represent a 20-fold drop from older estimates.

On October 15, Google scientists tested magic state cultivation on its 105-qubit Willow chip. This cut calculation errors by 40 times. Published in the journal Science, the work reached 99.99% accuracy. Solving this major bottleneck helps shrink the machine size needed for code-breaking attacks.

Exposed Public Keys Have Put 6.04 Million Bitcoin at Risk

Data from a Glassnode co-founder shows 6.04 million BTC, or roughly 31.2% of the mined supply, sits in wallets with exposed public keys. Some estimates put that figure at 6.9 million BTC. Visible keys allow future tools to work backward and guess private passwords.

Sun warned that once AI or quantum decryption goes live, hackers will breach untouched wallets and dump over 2 million BTC onto the market.

“Given BTC’s extremely high degree of decentralization, it is extremely difficult for the community and miners to reach consensus to freeze, confiscate, or restrict circulation through a hard fork,” Sun noted.

Coinbase Urges Developers to Prepare for Security Upgrades

On October 13, major Bitcoin custodian Coinbase ($COIN) released a report urging developers to build defense upgrades well before a dangerous quantum computer arrives. Since rule changes and wallet migrations take years, Coinbase noted that flexible output types and staged hybrid protection matter now.

While Sun’s warnings fuel developer debates over Bitcoin’s long-term flaws, Bitcoin still trades mainly on broader market factors.
