Fishing for Best-Rated Stocks with TipRanks’ New Stock Screener

TipRanks Develops Powerful Screener Based on Unique Market Insights

The screener allows users to find investment inspiration fast. The best part about the screener, apart from the fact that (as you will see) it is very easy to use, is that alongside standard filters like market cap, sector, yield etc. users can also screen for the analyst consensus rating. You can find stocks that only have an analyst consensus rating of strong buy, or if you prefer, strong sell.

Premium or ultimate user? Filter by five unique filters to a) incorporate signals from different market sectors and b) see only the consensus from analysts that consistently outperform the rest of the market:

Ready?! Now let’s put the screener to the test and start fishing.

By analyst consensus- Kraft Heinz (KHC) and Magellan Midstream (MMP)

What happens if we use the analyst consensus filter to find some strong buy stocks? We set just the first four filters- market cap (mega, large), sector (all), yield (high, very high) and analyst consensus (strong buy). From the 15 or so stock results, 4 had only buy analyst recommendations- no holds, no sells. Out of these 4 we narrowed it down to the two with the highest upside in the average analyst price target.

The results: Kraft Heinz and pipeline owner Magellan Midstream. This is the consensus for KHC, which has an average analyst price target of $101.83 (20.86% upside from current share price):

strong

We can take a closer look by expanding Kraft Heinz’s results box:

As well as a chart showing how the stock has moved over time, note how the blogger consensus, news sentiment and hedge fund and insider signals are all included.

For deeper insights into the stock’s performance click the blue stock ticker to visit the stock page analysis. Now we can see what analysts are actually saying. The accompanying article to the most recent buy recommendation from Bernstein’s Alexia Howard shows that KHC is one of Howard’s top picks for 2017 due to its efficiency and ability to extract large cost synergies from acquisitions of other food companies.

By news sentiment- Microsoft (MSFT)

If we adjust the filters to prioritize bullish news sentiment over analyst strong buy recommendations, we can pull up stocks like Microsoft that have very strong news sentiment but only a moderate buy analyst consensus rating. Filtering for news is interesting because the sentiment score can move faster than the analyst consensus on a stock so it allows you to stay ahead of the market.

In fact when we look closer we can see that even though the analyst consensus rating is moderate buy based on all the analyst recommendations made in the last three months, the last 15 analyst ratings are all buy! The hold and sell recommendations were all over 3 months ago. Piper Jaffray’s Alex Zukin who recently initiated coverage of the stock says “The central tenet of our investment thesis and $80 price target is the belief that Microsoft’s fast-growing Cloud businesses will lead to accelerated revenue and gross profit growth through FY19.”

The average analyst price target for Microsoft is $67.93- an 8.48% upside from the current share price.
