DAX 40: Is BASF Still a Buy After the Recent Ratings?

BASF SE (DE:BAS) is a leading chemical manufacturing company in Europe. The company’s product range is spread across six segments, including Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions, Surface Technologies, Nutrition & Care, and Agricultural Solutions.

The company’s stock has exhibited volatility and delivered a modest return of 2.51% over the past year. Analysts anticipate that the company may face short-term disturbances due to an ongoing economic slowdown and margin pressures. They have rated the stock as Hold.

Analysts’ View

Yesterday, analysts from Goldman Sachs and UBS reiterated their ratings on the stock.

Georgina Fraser, CFA, from UBS, maintained her Hold rating on the stock and predicts an upside of 9.3% in the share price.

Analyst Andrew Stott from UBS reiterated his Sell rating on the stock at a price target of €43.0. This implies a downside of 9.5% in the share price from the current level.

On the contrary, Bernstein analyst Gunther Zechmann maintains a highly bullish outlook on the stock, reaffirming his Buy rating just eight days ago. Zechmann predicts a potential growth of nearly 58% in the share price.

Is BASF a Good Stock to Buy?

According to TipRanks’ analyst consensus, BAS stock has a Hold rating based on five Buy, seven Hold, and three Sell recommendations.

The average target price is €54.71, which shows a growth of 15% from the current price level.

Conclusion

BASF is optimistic that there could be a significant boost in China and an improvement in demand in Europe during the latter part of this year. However, analysts feel there is currently no concrete indication of either of these factors and have rated the stock as Hold.
