This Analyst’s Track Record

It’s the third day of the new year.  So are you still on track to keep all of your 2014 resolutions? One of the top New Year’s resolutions is getting into shape and losing a few pounds. What better way to stay motivated than with some new gear and great kicks on your feet. Janney analyst Eric Tracy recognizes the appeal of the athletic industry and his financial recommendations about companies such as Nike (NKE), Dicks Sporting Goods (DKS) and Deckers Outdoors Corp.(DECK) have earned him a 2.2% average return over S&P-500 and the 352 spot out of 2312 analysts.

Partially thanks to the winter cold snap, Eric Tracy’s BUY DECK recommendation earned him +38.4% measured performance over the S&P-500. “Proprietary channel checks suggest demand for Ugg product has been healthy, setting the stage for potential increased re-orders and reduced cancellations against a balanced inventory position.” Eric took advantage of the strong product paired with the perfect cooling temperature and was able to come out on top.

His recent The Finish Line (FINL) BUY rating has also helped add to his 64% success rate of recommended stocks. Eric noted in September that the athletic apparel store had “an improving pipeline (primarily in running) support[ing] a potential 2H13 comp re-acceleration (against easier compares) and improved EPS flow-through.” There was also promising information about a Macy’s partnership and investments in the digital/omni channel were helping elevate productivity. This recommendation earned Eric +11.6%.

Despite his eye for a great athletic deal, Eric has also made some wrong calls. Eric reiterated a BUY DECK rating earlier this December, but did not see the same success as his past recommendation. Eric was excited about the new Ugg Spring/Fall lines arguing, “(1) a broader assortment with core line extensions augmented with an enhanced fashion/casual offering, (2) sharper price points with the ramp of Ugg Pure, (3) an intriguing introduction of I Heart Ugg line, and (4) a more cohesive strategic Ugg marketing campaign for’14.” However, he is currently down -3.4% on this open recommendation.

Not every recommendation can leave Eric looking like a champion, but Eric has a solid track record of bringing in solid returns.
